Lakewood Camping Resort to Host "Camping Rescues for Children" to Benefit the Children's Recovery Center

Since opening in 1959, Lakewood Camping Resort has always been heavily involved in the Myrtle Beach area community. Through the years, we’ve worked with the local chapters of the American Heart Association and the Red Cross, the Tara Hall for Boys in Georgetown,  and the First Baptist Church of Myrtle Beach to help the less fortunate along the Grand Strand. After meeting and speaking with Dr. Carol Rahter, the director of the Children’s Recovery Center, we knew that we wanted to work with Dr. Rahter and her staff at the center to help make a difference for Horry and Georgetown youth who are victims of physical and sexual child abuse.

To help raise money for the Children’s Recovery Center, we are pleased to host “Camping Rescues Children,” a three-day fundraising weekend for the Children’s Recovery Center, Thursday, September 24 through Sunday, September 27, 2009. All proceeds will be donated to the center to assist in their continued education and prevention of physical and sexual child abuse.

In addition to the three days of camping, guests will also participate in activities that include volleyball, basketball, horseshoes, shuffleboard, mini-golf, paddleboat races, sand castle building and beach bingo. All guests will enjoy campsite rental, a welcome reception, three breakfasts, two dinners and three family-fun passes.

The fee for the “Camping Rescues Children” package is $275 per couple, plus $37.50 per additional person. Annual lease residents receive the package at a discounted rate of $75 per couple, plus $37.50 per additional person. The Children’s Recovery Center is a local non-profit advocacy organization that is affiliated with the National Children’s Alliance Center. With an office in Myrtle Beach and a satellite office in Georgetown, the Children’s Recovery Center provides forensic interviews and medical exams to Horry and Georgetown County children when sexual and physical abuse is suspected.
