David Pearson Charity Ride a Success - Oct 9, 2007

1st Annual David Pearson Charity Ride Group Picture
After several damp days of riding, the sky finally cleared just in time for the first annual "David Pearson Charity Motorcycle Ride". The ride, presented by Lakewood Camping Resort included more than 50 bikes. The ride left Lakewood Camping Resort at 10:00am Saturday after a brief parade through the park. The ride was escorted by five South Carolina State Highway Patrol Officers who did a great job of keeping the bikes together. The ride route was 80 miles starting at Lakewood Camping Resort in Myrtle Beach ending at the Darlington Raceway. The ride was lead by David Pearson himself and a replica of his famous "21" race car.

Once the riders arrived at the track they took advantage of free admission to the "Raceway Museum". The speedway was gracious enough to donate free admission to everyone associated with the charity ride. After the museum it was off to lunch at the Speedway Grill next to the track.
In all more than $2,500 dollars was raised during the event. The 2008 charity ride is in the works. Lakewood Camping Resort plans to make the ride an annual event with the hope to help a different charity each year. Riders will be able to take a lap around the track for the 2008 ride once they reach the raceway.
Long Sleeve T-Shirts are still available from the event for a price of $14.00. If you are interested in purchasing a shirt or registering for the 2008 charity ride please contact Candace Howell at (843)447-7368 or email marketing@lakewoodcampground.com
Lakewood Camping Resort would like to thank the South Carolina Highway Patrol, David Pearson, the staff at Darlington Raceway, the Speedway Grill, all the sponsors and those who volunteered their time on this event. Every donation will help clothe more than 100 children this winter who are living in horrible conditions at an Orphanage in Romania. God bless you all for your support.
